Dog Showing with the Yorkshire Gundog Club
The Club holds two Open Shows each year — one in February and one in October — supporting breed specialist judges wherever possible. Dog showing is a competitive sport where pedigree dogs are judged on how closely they conform to the official breed standard. These standards describe the ideal appearance, structure, and temperament for each breed — acting as both a guide for breeders and a reference for judges in the show ring. If you're interested in entering your dog in our next event, or if you have any questions about showing, please contact our Honorary Club Secretary: Karen Bovio Get Involved in Dog Showing We're always keen to welcome new, enthusiastic Committee Members and Show Stewards — whether you’re experienced or just starting out. Helping with show management is a great way to support the sport, learn more about showing, and meet other dog lovers. If you’d like to get involved, please get in touch with: Karen Bovio Understanding Breed Standards Breed shows are based on judging dogs against the official breed standard — a written description of the ideal example of the breed. This includes details on conformation, movement, and temperament. The breed standard is a guide for breeders to produce healthy, well-structured, and typical dogs and a tool for judges when assessing dogs in the show ring 👉 Read the breed standard for your dog on The Kennel Club website |
